At the beginning of each season in August, every high school football team has one goal in mind, and that is to still be playing the first Friday of December for a chance to play for the State Championship that is hosted at Carter Finley Stadium and Kenan Stadium. For 16 teams in North Carolina, that is a reality, and on Friday night they will be playing with a state championship berth on the line.
In the 3A playoffs Regional Final between Seventy First and Northern Nash, both teams come in to the game carrying a 14-0 record for the season. And both teams have knocked off quality opponents to get to this point.
Here are some stats for each team:
Seventy First is averaging 40 points per game and they give up 9 points per game. The quarterback DeAndre Nance has 790 yds and 11 touchdowns and they have two running backs with a combined total for 3526 rushing yards this season.
Northern Nash is averaging 42 points per game and they give up 9 points per game. Keno Jones, the quarterback, has 2231 yds and 34 touchdowns. For the rushing side of the ball, Dywhaun Mitchell has 649 yds and 9 touchdowns. Keno Jones also rushes and has 9 touchdowns and 576 yds.
The biggest key of the game is who can score the most points and which team makes the least mistakes. This is the first time that Northern Nash has hosted the Eastern Conference Regional Final and they are looking to make it back the the state championship for the first time since 2002.
The winner of this game will face the winner of #4 East Lincoln vs #11 South Point at Carter Finley Stadium on Saturday December 10th at 7 pm.
