The saying goes there are things that change the more they stay the same. This certainly goes for Edenton vs Tarboro in the state playoffs.
They have met for four consecutive years and each time Tarboro has defeated Edenton. Tonight would be no different as the streak stays intact. Coach Jeff Craddock said ” We have to prepare like we always do and we have to prepare for the current Edenton team”. The defense rose to the challenge tonight as Edenton loves to run the triple option.
Coach Craddock said that “He wanted his team to get off to a fast start.” Tarboro would get the ball first and would take the ball down to the 1 yd line and Kenai Gunter would rushbin for the 1 yd score and put the Vikings up 7-0. So Edenton Holmes gets the ball to start their 1st drive and on the first play they fumble it and Tarboro gets the recovery at the 16 yd line. On the next play of scrimmage, Tobias Joyner goes for a 16 yd rush and puts Tarboro up 14-0 with 755 left 1st quarter.

Edenton Holmes gets the ball and Fred Drew rushes for 79 yds and gets the first points for Edenton and its 14-7. A few plays later Edenton gets the ball back and they are forced to punt. The punter couldn’t handle the snap and fumbles and Tarboro recovers at the Edenton 28 yd line.
It didn’t take long for Tarboro to score ad Micah Taylor scores from 28 yds out and puts them up 21-7. Tarboro puts up another score and makes it 28-7.
Edenton gets the ball and Teddy Wilson takes it to the house and makes it 28-14. Tarboro fumbles the kickoff and Edenton Holmes is set up with great field position and they capitalize when Tyshiem Harris catches a 2 yd td pass to make it 28-21 midway through the 2nd quarter. Coach Craddock was not concerned when it was one score. He tokd his players ” We got to bow up here and when you play great teams they are going to make plays. ”
Tarboro was able to add 3 more touchdowns thanks to turnovers by Edenton and at the half it was 49-21. The message to his team at halftime was they have got to finish.
Tarboro did exactly what their coach wanted them to do and that was to finish.. Thata what they would go on to do and win 63-21. Next week they will face Louisburg or East Carteret.
