Evening Optimist continues winning ways

Rocky Mount, NC- In the first inning, Pizza Inn sent three batters up to the plate and each time the result was the same. Evening Optimist pitcher Jamiere Harris was able to strike out the batters in order. In the bottom of the inning, Evening Optimist was able to get a run on the board thanks to an error made by Pizza Inn’s second baseman.

Evening Optimist’s Harris continued to control the game for the three innings he pitched, striking out a total of seven Pizza Inn batters.

One inning made all the difference in this game. Evening Optimist was able to open the game up in the 3rd thanks to several key hits that led to three runs, putting the team up 4-0 after 3.

In the 4th inning, Pizza Inn was able to score one run. In the end, that would not be enough to get momentum on their side, as Evening Optimist scored 5 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to put this one out of reach. The final score was Evening Optimist 11-1.

“Evening Optimist is a great team and they have the most talented team on paper by far in the league and they are all 12 year old. All of that aside we have to compete. We had many times we struck out looking and we have to compete and we need to go down swinging,” said Pizza Inn Coach Travis Ward.

Evening Optimist Coach Robbie Miller was pleased with his team’s performance tonight. “A lot of kids stepped up and hit the ball when they were suppose to hit the ball. Our players made the plays that we were suppose to make.”

Robbie Miller explained that he has a team everyone is gunning for in this league. “When you have a lot of 12 year olds on your team, everyone is gunning to beat you and you have a target on your back.”

Next week, series play will begin, with games scheduled for Monday and Wednesday night. Will Evening Optimist continue their winning ways next week when they face Chambliss & Rabil twice?

The schedule for Monday, July 20 is below.

Hester & Tucker vs Pizza Inn
Chambliss & Rabil vs Evening Optimist
Breakfast Optimist vs Wesley Men

All games are held at 7 pm at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.
