Breakfast Optimist off to fast start against Chambliss & Rabil

Rocky Mount, NC- After coming off a long game last Wednesday night people wondered how Breakfast Optimist (2-0) would fare against Chambliss & Rabil (0-2). For Chambliss & Rabil they wondered how they would respond after being defeated 10-0 by Evening Optimist. It didn’t take long to get that answer.

Breakfast Optimist was able to get 3 runs in the 1st inning and it was on from there. In the bottom of the 1st, Chambliss and Rabil were able to get 2 runs back and after one inning of play the score was 3-2.

In the 2nd inning it was more of the same for Breakfast Optimist, they were able to get three more runs scored thanks to a single from Andrew Rine. Chambliss & Rabil were held scoreless in the 2nd inning. After 2 it was 6-2 Breakfast Optimist.

In the 3rd, Breakfast Optimist added 4 runs and then in the bottom of that inning Chamblss & Rabil was able to get 3 runs in and make the score 10-5.

Much of the Breakfast Optimist success in the first 3 innings was led by Trip Evans who made his first start in Majors.

In the end, Chambliss & Rabli was not able to put together a run and lost to Breakfast Optimist 13-5. Chambliss and Rabil only managed to strike out 5 batters during the game. Breakfast Optimist was able to strike out 10 of their batters.

Breakfast Optimist coach Steve Calhoun said “We keep improving each time we play and our players keep stepping up both offensively and defensively.” He was very happy with the offensive performance, he said, “We were hitting the ball good and we were able to find gaps”. Although he was happy with the performance tonight, Coach Calhoun said to his team “We have got to keep improving and working hard. I see a lot of effort from the players. One of the other coaches mentioned that this team is fighting harder and harder.”

Although Chambliss & Rabil lost this game Coach Powell was pleased with what he saw during the game tonight. He said “We had a much more spirited effort tonight. We did some things tonight that we didn’t do on Wednesday night. We will continue to grow and mature and it is a work in progress.” He said they left some opportunities on the field tonight. Going forward Coach Powell had this message to share with his team “We took a giant step forward tonight from last week. We had a come to Jesus meeting last Thursday at practice. The effort tonight was much more indicative of a team that i’m expecting to show up each night.”

Chambliss & Rabil will look to get in the winners column on Wedesnday night when they face Wesley Men. Breakfast Optimist will look to keep their winning ways and undefeated streak going against Hester & Tucker, Atty’s.
