Due to the current coronavirus situation and all sports being shut down, there are a lot of athletes who have had their senior seasons cut short. ENC Sports Review thought it would be nice to highlight some of these seniors as a small way to celebrate their senior year, since so much has been taken from them already. Today, we will highlight Faith Christian School Senior Sarah Jeffries Butler. We thank Sarah for taking the time to sit down with ENC Sports Review and answer these questions for us. We had fun learning more about her and hope you will too!
How long have you been playing sports?
I have been playing sports since 7th grade so around 6 years.
What teams have you been on? (This can be rec ball, middle school and high school)
I have played varsity tennis, varsity cheer, and I have also played jv and varsity soccer for Faith Christian School.

Who has been your favorite coach and what did he or she teach you that you carry with you through today?
I have definitely been blessed with some of the best coaches throughout high school. Every single one of them has taught me so much and have helped me become the athlete that I am. However, my favorite coach is Barry Nethercutt, he was my varsity tennis coach. He is my favorite coach because he lives for tennis and he made every single practice so fun. He truly was the one who made me realize how much I love the sport of tennis. He taught me joy and taught me how to be competitive yet still enjoy every match.

What is your favorite memory and least favorite memory of playing sports?
My absolute favorite memory would have to be making it to the tennis state playoffs two years in a row with my team. We worked so hard and it was so exciting to experience with all my teammates, it was a really rewarding time for us! My least favorite memory was my last match and realizing that my high school tennis career was over, I just never wanted that time to end. Another least favorite memory would be not realizing until a week after that I had possibly played my last soccer game for my senior season.

What is one thing or event that if you could do over again you would change?
If I could go back and change that last week I still had with my soccer team before covid-19 suspended sports I would have appreciated it a lot more and I would have worked a little harder.

Who is someone you look up to and why?
I look up to my athletic director, Ronnie Beddingfield. He is always there for all the athletes of Faith Christian and you can really tell that he loves his job and loves the people of Faith Christian. He has made the athletic program at FCS so much more that anyone could have ever imagined. Because of him I have appreciated sports more.
If you could go back 5 years and tell yourself something then that you know now what would it be?
I would tell myself to take in every moment. Take in every practice, and every game. I would also tell myself to push harder because time passes so quickly and it ends so fast and once it does you regret what you didn’t do.
What is something you would tell someone trying to follow in your footsteps?
Don’t get too wrapped up into being the best, sports is an outlet that should relieve stress and make you happier, so just enjoy what you have while you have it.
If you have played your last high school game, what is something that you will remember for the rest of your life?
The bonds I was blessed to make with my teammates. They make the sport that much more fun and I loved getting closer with so many different girls.
