Patriots defeat Epiphany

One of the goals when you host a conference championship at your school is to have your home team in it – that is exactly what Faith Christian did.

Faith Christian defeated Halifax Academy and Community Christian School during the tournament. Faith faced Epiphany for the championship and you couldn’t help but wonder how will they would come out after playing 3 games in as many days.

In the first couple minutes, it looked like Faith had no ill effects. They were hitting shots and Epiphany could not answer for the first few minutes of the game. Epiphany was able to cut the score to 8-6, enticing Coach Brothers to call timeout. After the time out, Faith came out strong and ended the 1st quarter with a 6-0 run to make it 14-6 game after one quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, Faith made several field goals and they were able to extend their lead to 12 at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Epiphany was able to change up a couple of things and they were able to pull within 3, with a 35-32 score, after breaking up several Faith passes and making things work for them on the inside. Coach Brothers talked about Epiphany’s ability to do this in his postgame interview. “Epiphany is a half court team, 2-3 zone, very tough inside and very hard to get the ball in there and they get their hands on a lot of passes. So it slows us down,” he said.

However, in the 4th quarter, Faith looked like a team on a mission, as they didn’t miss many shots and Epiphany turned the ball over a few times. With each of those turnovers, Faith was able to score baskets and out score Epiphany 15-8.

Faith Christian defeated Epiphany with a score of 50-40.

Faith Christian now waits for their place in the State Playoffs. “It’s tough at this point because we are right on the bubble of betting a home game and we will know Sunday afternoon,” Coach Brothers said about the playoffs. Brothers also said the playoffs were about the fans and supporters in the crowd. “If we do get that home game, we have a good shot with the way the crowd is here and then we will start looking at film for the next opponent.”
