Demons vs Knights

After a near come back against Franklinton on Tuesday night, Northern Nash looked to rebound against Fike on Friday night. In the 1st quarter, Fike jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and a lot of Northern fans wondered if they were going to go down the same road from Tuesday. However, Northern answered with 5 quick points and was able to take the lead and maintain it into the 2nd quarter.

In the 2nd Quarter, Northern made some changes and they started making turnovers. This allowed Fike to cut the lead to 3 going into halftime.

In the 2nd half, Northern was able to extend their lead, but Fike came battling back and cut the lead to 6 going into the 4th quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Fike had a fighting chance, but they turned the ball over a few times and Northern Nash was able to take advantage and turn their Fike’s turnovers into points. Northern was also shooting great at the free throw line as well during the game, but especially hit their marks during the 4th quarter. Northern Nash would defeat Fike by a final score of 73-61.

Coach Drake was very proud of his team’s effort. “Well we shot all the way around. It was a well rounded game for us. We blocked shots, shot free throws well and also the 3s as well,” he said.

Looking ahead for Northern, they only have one game in the next 7 days. They will play on Valentine’s Day, and although that is a day for love, there is no love lost between them and Rocky Mount High School, their next opponent. While looking to the next game, Coach Drake said, “We just talked about this a while ago. It’s the game everyone looks forward to coming except the coaches.” Drake added, “It’s good for our community, our school district and I’m glad I get to be a part of the rivalry. “

If you have never been to a Northern vs Rocky Mount game, I suggest you go to one and also keep in mind to get there early because you want a good seat at the game – the gym fills quickly for this highly anticipated rivalry game.
