Patriots Top Vikings

Rocky Mount, NC – Tonight was the second night of the CIC Tournament that’s being held at Faith Christian School this week. In their first game of the tournament, Faith Christian continued their winning ways of the season as they easily defeated Halifax Academy with a 79-44 score.

Faith Christian (17-7, 11-2) jumped out to an early lead thanks to some field goals made by Chandler Cockrell and Jake Batchelor in the 1st quarter that was dominated by Faith Christian. Halifax Academy (3-18, 2-11) turned the ball over multiple times in the 1st quarter that led to many Patriots field goals.

In the second quarter, it was same song, different verse for Faith Christian as they were able to keep a 10 point cushion thanks to multiple field goals by Chandler Cockrell and Hobart Brantley. By halftime, the score was 41-28.

In the 2nd half, Faith Christian remained in control as they out scored Halifax Academy 32-7. Halifax Academy was not able to overcome that big of deficit.

Faith Christian Coach Rod Brothers was proud of his team for their effort and not letting their guard down. “We knew that Halifax played a game last night, so they were coming in on tired legs,” he said. “With all of the pressure we like to play anyway, we just amped it up a little bit more because we knew in the second half that whatever the score was at halftime, they’d really have a hard time coming out and matching our intensity,” he added.

Next up for Faith Christian is a match up on Thursday night against Community Christian School. Coach Brothers said, “It’s a tough match up and they have the best player in the league.” Brothers added, “They play at the same speed that we do, we just got to be able to get the ball inside and attack the basket on them and just try to do our best and contain those guys.”
